Historical Perspective: In the mid 1950’s, a few forward-thinking pioneers believed a ruminant supplement in liquid form could be produced to supply comparable nutrition to compete with dry supplements. A spark of enthusiasm attracted a number of individuals, expanding the development and distribution of liquid supplements into a wide range of geographical areas. By the late 1960s, it was apparent the industry leaders needed to come together to seek solutions to common problems and, whenever possible, to shape this expanding industry and to work with government regulators.
The American Feed Manufacturers Association (later to become the American Feed Industry Association) developed the Liquid Feed Committee in 1971. The first Liquid Feed Symposium was held in Omaha, Nebraska, with 15 presentations from industry leaders on a variety of topics including the use of minerals, vitamins, non-protein nitrogen, nutritional contributions of molasses, utilization and nutritive value of liquid supplements, manufacturing systems, on-farm storage and regulatory aspects.
The Exhibit Hall became a forum for incredible networking at the Liquid Feed Symposium. All of the breaks and receptions are in the Exhibit Hall, adding to the buzz. It is estimated that upwards of 1,100 exhibit booths have displayed products and services to key liquid manufacturing decision-makers over the past 40 years.
