Kenny Berg Research and Education Fund

The American Feed Industry Association’s Liquid Feed Committee raises funds to help support vital research that benefits the liquid feed supplementation industry. In many cases, the research also benefits dry feed formulation for the beef and dairy sectors.

Research proposals submitted by universities and land-grant colleges are reviewed by members of the Liquid Feed Committee’s research subcommittee and, if certain criteria are met, projects are accepted and funding follows. A final report of the research findings is typically presented at the annual symposium and is included in the proceedings that are distributed to all attendees. The Liquid Feed Symposium Proceedings are available for purchase following the symposium.

The following areas of research are of particular interest:

  • Minerals—form and bioavailability
  • Methods of regulation of free choice intake
  • Liquid feed ingredients—characterize and quantify composition
  • Formulation or manufacturing—ammonia release and drug stability
  • Comparisons of liquid and dry forms of supplements
  • Management—by-pass amino acids versus by-pass protein
  • Marketing—non-ruminants, non-agricultural and the potential
